After leaving school in 2004, I knew what I wanted to do and what I had to do to get there. I started off at Loughborough college and attended a 2 year course called BTEC National Diploma in sport studies. I had to do some subjects that didn't really interest me like sports development and sporting IT, but then I was able to take part in the subjects that really did interest me, these being sports injuries, sport massage and sports first aid. After passing sports injuries with a merit and sports massage with a distinction I was then able to do the final step: Equine sports massage. I was taught by Gilliyan Carter of Equi-Therapy uk, and I have been working since in the east midlands area, which I am enjoying a great deal. I have had experience of working with horses for the last 10 years, starting off in a local riding yard helping to muck out in exchange for the occasional ride. I used to have 2 horses of my own, but unfortunately I lost my old pony in Nov 07. This was an awful time for me as he was my first pony. I learnt much of what I know today from him. I wouldn't be doing this as a career except for him. Fortunately, I still have my younger horse. We both found it hard when his best friend passed away. |
