We bought Ollie in 1996 as a 4 year old who had been lightly schooled and hunted. During his 12 years with us he has competed in all Pony Club activities was a member of the Area Show Jumping, Dressage, Eventing and Tetrathlon teams. In 2000 Ollie and I were selected as members of the UK Tetrathlon team, where he was chosen by the leading USA Tetrathlete to complete her cross country round at Floors Castle, Scotland and he didn't let us down, jumping 2 clear rounds. Whilst I was on my gap year in Australia, my sister Becky qualified for the 2001 Pony Club championships on Ollie in both the Show jumping and Eventing. Then in 2001 he was diagnosed with bone spavins in both hocks, he had a few months off while the hocks fused and settled down. He then went on to compete at Novice level in British Eventing, as well as team chasing and hunting with the Quorn and Belvoir Hunts. However, we did find he was dragging his hind feet more so the farrier now shoes him with rolled toes and lateral extensions on the hind and bar shoes on the front, and there has been a slight improvement in his gait. Over the last year we were finding he was stiff in the mornings and needed a lot more warming up and he had also started stopping at the odd fence which really wasn't like him. We therefore decided to cut down the number of competitions he was doing and give him a seasons hunting and that was defiantly the right thing to do and he is back to his old jumping ways. Since Charlotte has been visiting Ollie, mum and I have seen a massive improvement in him. He is not dragging his hind toes as much, he is not as stiff when coming out the stable in the morning and he is jumping some very impressive sized hedges again. But the biggest difference in him has been his personality, out hacking he has been jogging along which was unheard of before and he is being an even bigger thug than usual, but we don?t mind as it is just so nice to see him feeling so well. During the time Charlotte has been treating Ollie he got a front leg stuck down a hole while cantering across a field out hunting. He trotted up lame that evening but when Charlotte saw him the next day he was sound but very stiff and sore. He has had 5 treatments since his accident and is back to his old self. I believe he would not have recovered as quickly if Charlotte had not been treating him. |
